Because New Lifestyles works with individuals with a range of psychological disorders and because several therapist positions are available, specific duties assisgned are based on the successful candidate's expertise/interest. However, in general, the ideal candiate is capable of working with multiple disorders but also has expertise or strong interest in the treatment of anxiety disorders, Aspergers spectrum disorders, substance abuse, emerging schizophrenic and bipolar disorders, personality disorders or some other skill of clinical utility in a comprehensive treatment program, e.g., psychological testing, etc.  Possession of strong family therapy skills is a plus.

Program development opportunities based upon expertise and interest

  • development of treatment protocol for individuals with Aspergers disorder, non-verbal learning disorders, and ADHD

  • development of treatment protocol for individuals with personality disorders to include borderline personality disorder

Professional clinical supervision opportunities based upon expertise and interest
New Lifestyles is an APPIC approved pre-doctoral internship training site for psychologists. APA certification is anticipated in 2009. In addition to the pre-doctoral internship, New Lifestyles also provides residency training in psychology. Various professional supervision opportunities exist in the areas of:

Intention: The Program Assistant instructs, reinforces, models, facilitates and supports a full range of healthy and productive participant activities.

Description:

The Program Assistant interacts daily with participants in a manner that teaches and clarifies program expectations; maintains participant schedules that include personal, household, school/vocational, social, and recreational activities; and identifies and delivers reinforcers (primarily social) contingently.


Special expertise, interests or experience but not required: Vocational training/coaching; recreational programming; etc.

Essential Functions

  • plans, develops, and facilitates psycho-social, recreational, and enrichment groups/experiences;
  • monitors, implements, observes and records relevant program and individual behavioral data (e.g., attendance, honor code);
  • develops and adjusts student schedules as needed;
  • teaches daily living skills, e.g., Emergency skills; shapes independent performance of daily living skills; and monitors performance of daily living skills;
  • facilitates participant management of self-care tasks, e.g., doctor appointments, medication/prescription management as directed by Program Supervisor;
  • prompts participants regarding behaviors relevant to individual mission and relevant goals progress;
  • instructs students during financial sessions;
  • tutors as directed;
  • attends to and monitors safety considerations.
